The study aims to evaluate how digital interaction design within WeChat mini programs can promote cross-cultural appreciation of Nanchang porcelain panel paintings, a distinctive form of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. It seeks to understand how interactive features enhance user engagement, cultural learning, and aesthetic appreciation while addressing preservation challenges. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study was conducted in Nanchang, China, involving 10 participants comprising foreign students. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to capture their perceptions regarding Chinese porcelain panel painting. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns related to digital interaction, user experience, and cultural appreciation. The findings indicate that interactive features such as visual storytelling, interactive navigation, and gamification significantly enhanced users’ engagement, usability, and accessibility. Respondents emphasized that these 2D interactive elements deepened their appreciation of both the aesthetic and symbolic values of porcelain paintings. However, challenges such as technical limitations and risks of cultural oversimplification were also noted. The study contributes to cultural heritage preservation research by demonstrating the unique role of WeChat mini-programs in combining interactivity with social sharing. It offers practical implications for digital heritage education, preservation strategies, and future cross-cultural communication initiatives.
