Abstract
The department of Agriculture Sarawak was formed in 1924 when a British Director of Agriculture was appointed. This was the very beginning of Government's involvement developing agriculture in Sarawak. Agriculture development efforts specifically in crop have been implemented by the Department of Agriculture starting in 1929. Since then, it has grown rapidly in terms of manpower and coverage of programs and activities. Jabatan Pertanian Bintulu is a governing local authority established for the purpose of administering works related to agriculture in Sarawak (Bintulu division). This organization was developed in Bintulu division that covered up to 12,130 km per square. There are various type of etnics that exist and live here in Bintulu, such as lban, China, Melayu, Melanau, Kayan, Penan, Kedayan dan Bekatan. There are few agriculture stations (district) in Bintulu division which is in, Tatau district, Sebauh and Bintulu district itself. Bintulu district has one small station which is Tubau in Sebauh, meanwhile Tatau district has four small station consist of Sangan, Muput, Kuala Tatau dan Nanga Tau. Nowadays, the attention of Jabatan Pertanian Bintulu not only to crop plantation, but also few other sector. For example, to inland fisheries, the development of plantation institution and more. Currently, the Department's focus is not only in crops, but also inland fisheries, research & development (R&D), farmers' institution development and human resource development and extension.
