Abstract

This study investigates the psychological impact of social media on 80 competitive youth athletes (aged 16–25) by examining the relationship between engagement patterns and mental well-being. Using a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, the research utilizes the SMES-A, GAD-7, PHQ-9, and RSES scales to evaluate how digital interactions correlate with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Through Pearson correlation and descriptive statistics, the study addresses the unique vulnerabilities of athletes facing performance pressures and idealized online portrayals, filling a critical gap in sports psychology regarding the dual-edged nature of social media engagement.
