Abstract

This study investigates the cognitive effects of a 16:8 intermittent fasting (IF) protocol on concentration, processing speed, and inhibitory control among sixteen UiTM Seremban students. Using the Stroop test to measure accuracy and mental performance, the research compared fasting and non-fasting groups over a four-week period, finding no statistically significant impairment in concentration between fasting (97.4) and post-meal (97.8) states (p = 0.494). The results suggest that cognitive control and mental clarity remain intact under fasting conditions, providing localized evidence that intermittent fasting does not hinder the academic or cognitive performance of Malaysian university students during short-duration tasks.
