Abstract

My eye-opening and life-changing six-month industrial training took place at PETRONAS NGV Sdn Bhd, a unit under PETRONAS which had pioneered the application of Natural Gas in Vehicles (NGV) in the country since its commercialization and is now spearheading the safe and orderly phase-out of this fuel in Malaysia. Working as an intern at the NGV Exit Project of the Retail Business Division provided me with a far-reaching scope of experiences as I was involved in dealing and coordinating through a plethora of work opportunities, such as the analysis of Job Completion Ticket (JCT) data, working on De-Kit coordination with POMEN, or facilitating the tracking of the audits, to the management and organisation of larger stakeholder events like RTG 3.0 at KLIA2 and NGV Engagement Day in Port Dickson, encompassing the coordination of communication These added to my leadership, project management and communication skills, as I directed, scripted, and produced corporate video content. Such placement allowed me to have hands-on experience regarding the industry functioning, interdepartmental cooperation, policy work, and event marketing, enhancing my pursuit of knowledge in sustainability communication. The fact that the company is the only operator of NGV in Malaysia was identified as one of the biggest strengths of the company alongside the technical ability of its staff and its partnership with the government, although persisting bureaucratic delay and old infrastructure jeopardize the responsiveness and the perception of safety in the operations of the company. The following are the strategic measures the report suggests PETRONAS NGV undertake in repurposing its assets to EV and hybrid infrastructure fuel, launch its own program of Clean Energy Talent Redeployment as well as seizing national opportunities on green energy under the NETR. PETRONAS NGV plays a strong role in leading and piloting policy programs during the transition of Malaysia to low-carbon mobility. It has been now about a year since I started my internship at PETRONAS NGV, and my experience prompted me to consider becoming a sustainability marketing and corporate branding specialist in the future, dedicating my life to closing the gap between clean energy innovation and the people behind its success in the Malaysian energy sector.
