Abstract
This internship report provides a comprehensive overview of my experience as an intern at Uzma Berhad, specifically within its LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) business division. The internship, conducted from 3rd March until mid of August on the 15th, offered valuable exposure to the technical, commercial, and strategic aspects of small-scale LNG (ssLNG) operations. It is an emerging and essential pillar of Uzma’s clean energy strategy. Uzma LNG plays a pivotal role in supporting Malaysia’s energy transition, offering sustainable and flexible energy solutions to off-grid and industrial clients through its ssLNG initiatives. Throughout the internship, I was involved in observing and supporting key business functions, including LNG import and distribution licensing, virtual pipeline logistics, mobile regasification systems, and off-grid industrial energy planning. This enabled me to gain a well-rounded understanding of how Uzma leverages its upstream oil and gas expertise to penetrate the clean energy sector with high operational discipline and technical credibility. The report explores critical business factors influencing Uzma LNG’s growth, including its strengths in technical capability and market positioning, opportunities aligned with national sustainability goals, and challenges such as regulatory complexity, pricing volatility, and logistics dependency. Through SWOT analysis and strategic observations, several recommendations are proposed to enhance Uzma’s competitiveness, including investment in digital logistics tools, strategic partnerships, policy engagement, and risk management mechanisms. Overall, this internship has significantly deepened my understanding of the LNG value chain and Malaysia’s broader energy transition. It has also developed my appreciation for the complexities of delivering energy solutions that are not only economically viable but also environmentally responsible. The experience at Uzma LNG has reinforced my interest in sustainable energy development and provided me with practical skills and insights that will be valuable in my future career.
