Abstract
IOI Corporation Berhad commonly referred to as IOI, was incorporated on 31 October 1969 as Industrial Oxygen Incorporated Sdn Bhd. IOI is one of Malaysia's biggest conglomerates that started off from industrial gas manufacturing. It ventured into property development in 1982, followed by oil palm plantations in 1985. As at June 2009, IOI Group employs more than 30 000 personnel of more than 23 different nationalities in 15 countries. Plantation is the core business of IOI Group which contributes between 55% and 60% to the Group earnings. The Group is engaged in cultivation off oil palm and processing of oil palm with operation in the full spectrum of palm oil value chain from the upstream activities of seed breeding and planting to crop oil extraction to the downstream resource - based manufacturing activities. IOI Group is committed to good and sustainable palm oil practices and is one of the most cost efficient producers in the industry dedicated to improve its fresh fruit bunches (FFB) yields, oil and kernel extraction rates and overall efficiency through progressive efforts in tissue culture research to cultivate clonal palms with superior traits. This commitment has led to all its estates and mills in Malaysia ( except estates and mills of its newly - acquired entity Unico - Desa Plantations Berhad) to be fully Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified.
