Abstract
The eyes are undoubtedly the most sensitive and delicate organs we possess. We get to see the world through these ‘windows’. Everyone relies the most on their own pair of eyes. Some conditions of the eye may cause some people to feel uncomfortable, to have blurred visions, experience dryness, and even pain. Due to these problems, patients seek for medical attention from physicians to receive proper treatment as a solution. Therefore, a research has been carried out regarding the ocular conditions and suitable therapy based on prescribed drugs by the doctors to come out with further explanation that can be analyzed through this research. The research is conducted at a hospital setting, involving the Out Patient Pharmacy of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun located at Ipoh, Perak. The study is set to illustrate the daily practice between the patients, doctors and the pharmacy itself that has been going on for the month of December in order to perceive a clearer analysis of the drug therapy. Many ophthalmic preparations are used in the practice of medicine. Ophthalmic products can be divided into solutions, suspensions, and ointments (Winfield and Richards, 2004). Eye drops are sterile solutions or suspensions of one or more drugs in an aqueous or oily vehicle intended for instillation into the conjunctival sac. Whereas, eye ointments are sterile, semi-solid preparations of homogenous appearance containing one or more drugs intended for application to conjunctival sac or eyelid margin. Different types of ocular diseases or conditions may require different treatment. Through this research, we are trying to get the prescribing trend for ocular problems, such as glaucoma, inflammation, and relate to numbers of patients having the respective disease. This research can be a source of information to relate the ocular diseases to gender, ethnicity, and the medication available at the hospital for treatments. Eyes are precious to everyone. The topic that is being discussed here may increase the awareness of how delicate the eyes are and introduce the conditions that may occur in one’s eye.
