iSIGN2U: development of mobile learning for sign language

This project uses mobile learning as the approach in education for students. The first problem that encountered is the deaf kids aged four to six years old are having the difficulties to interact and communicate with normal kids. The second problem is the normal kids cannot understand the sign language. Another problem is there are less mobile learning application about sign language for kids that used Bahasa Melayu as the language. This project aims to assist the normal kids aged four to six years old to learn sign language in order for them to interact with the deaf kids effectively. The objectives of this project are to identify the user requirements of iSign2u mobile learning application for the preschool kids, to design, and to develop iSign2u mobile learning application for the preschool kids. The scope of this project is for the preschool kids aged from four to six years old. The methodology adapted is Design Thinking which is divided into five stages that comprises of empathizing, define, ideate, prototype, and test. There are two modules included in the iSign2u mobile learning application which are ‘Huruf’ for the alphabets and ‘Nombor’ for numbers. The users that involved in this project for user testing are the preschool kids aged four to six years old at Tadika Kemas Kemaman, Terengganu. Based on the result from user testing, it shows that the positive feedbacks from the preschool kids as they mentioned about the attractive buttons and learnable videos on sign languages for alphabets and numbers.
