Commitment and interest in joining 2UiTM (Kelab Sukarelawan UiTM Sarawak) among students of UiTM Sarawak

Volunteerism can be defined as the participation in volunteer work that involve community services or a person who is unpaid, does not expecting anything in return and offers services freely without pressure. The focuses of this study are on the commitment and interest of 2UiTM (Kelab Sukarelawan UiTM Sarawak in UiTM Sarawak. A purposive sample from 186 respondents to examine the factor(s) that contributes to the involvement in volunteerism among students based on gender, the dominant factor(s) that influence student’s commitment in volunteerism and respondents” interest to participate in volunteerism. Findings shows that males realise on their responsibility to help communities and both male and female believe that the idea towards volunteerism give positive impact on their character, education attainment, social cohesion, and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. Motivational factor is the dominant factor that influence student’s commitment in volunteerism. The main solution on how to tackle the interest of student’s participation in volunteerism is by providing the idea towards volunteerism give a positive impact on character, education attainment, social cohesion and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
