Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and to analyse characteristic of ZnO NPS which are, particle size, functional group, crystal size and the bandwith. The ZnO nanoparticles was synthesized using green method which is banana peels extract (BPE) as stabilizers and reduction agents to control the crystal growth of ZnO NPs. The pH and reaction time was varied from 7 to 13 and 30 min to 150 min, respectively. The characterization of ZnO NPs was identified by Zeta Potential, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and UV-Visible Spectrometer (UV-Vis). From UV-Vis study, it is found that NPs are with average crystalline size of 13-15 nm are formed. From the XRD analysis, the band gap ZnO NPs using BPE is ~3.38 eV which is the quite similar to theoretical band gap value for ZnO NPs which is 3.37 eV. The BET result shows that the diameter of particle size is below than 100nm and zeta potential analysis show that the smallest particle size is 266.5 nm. From FTIR analysis, it is show that synthesized ZnO NPs at pH 12 and 60 min have similar result as pure ZnO.
