Preparation on chemical laboratory layout template (safety and health) / Salina Budin, Aznifa Mahyam Zaharudin and Ir Zulkifli Rasid

Safety and health in chemical laboratory are two important aspects that need to be considered and practiced. Ignored or no awareness on this two aspect will invite accident or effect on user's health. Fire and chemical exposure are two highest risks in chemical laboratory. Good layout and well fire prevention plan will help to avoid fire occurring and proper chemical handling and storage are required to avoid chemical exposure. Again, best layout plan are very helpful to gain this. Failing in providing and controlling safety and healthy chemical laboratory, will led to lost in both properties and life. Beside, it do not fulfilled government requirement under "Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994". This project will focus on efficient chemical laboratory layout as well as to look on best handling and chemical storage in order to eliminate the exposure. The application of fume hook and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are also taken into account. Finally, basic guidelines for laboratory safety and fire prevention are proposed. The information will be useful and serve as a guideline to set-up a safe chemical laboratory.
