Abstract

Nanomaterials are important to today's area of research due to their unique properties and characteristics. Metal oxide nanostructures are important because they can be utilised in various applications. Therefore, new findings in this area of research are well sought-after. Nanomaterials research not only involves the development of new materials but also characterisation methods and device fabrication. It is important that the new and novel materials are understood from the physics and the chemistry points of view so that the science and technology of nanomaterials and devices can be carefully documented and established. Some of the techniques and processes are novel in producing pure, nanostructured materials. Characterisation method in nanoscience and nanotechnology is specialised whereby it is necessary to use them to establish the low dimensionality of the crystallites as well as their functionalities. These methods include thermal, microscopic and spectroscopic methods. These methods are inherent in the study of nanomaterials to explain their unique nature and properties. It is also important to establish proper device characterisation methods as well so that the characteristics of devices can be understood as fully as possible. Thus, this book serves to illustrate the uniqueness of nanomaterials and their characteristics. It also demonstrates the application of the nanomaterials in related devices.
