Abstract

INTRODUCTION: This cross sectional study was to translate Attitudes Questionnaire into Malay version and to establish the psychometric properties of the translated version of Attitudes Questionnaire. METHOD: Samples of 10 people were recruited for pilot study in stage 1, 35 peoples were recruited for stage 2 and 30 peoples were recruited in stage 3. Respondents were given self-administered questionnaire that consist of 42 questions. In stage 3, it requires respondents to take the questionnaire in two time, which for pre-test and after 2 weeks, respondents need to retake the questionnaire for post-test. Respondents were age from 20 to 50 years old. RESULT: Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Stage 1 consists of subject age range from 20 to 50 years old, with male 30% and female 70%. Feedback received indicates 70% of the respondents did not understand some of the word or sentences used in the questionnaire. Stage 2 shows poor to excellent positive correlation (0.232 < r < 0.950, p < 0.001) between Attitudes Questionnaire-BI and Attitudes Questionnaire-BM. Stage 3 indicates no significant different of test and retest of Attitudes Questionnaire-BM after 2 weeks with p value is 0.502. Cronbach's alpha value was 0.997 which indicates good internal consistency and indicates stability for each item in the questionnaire. DISCUSSION: Result shows that the questionnaire has good psychometric properties and may be used in the Malaysian population. CONCLUSION: Further study need to be done to improve the reliability and validity of the translated version of Attitudes Questionnaire into Malay language.
